Some time ago I asked whether your own economic prospects were improving.
How is the economy for you? Are you comfortable? Unemployed? Started a business? Been promoted?
This is NOT an attempt to say the conservatives are wonderful or to be a political punch up.

Are we cash rich though? Probably the top 20% hold 80% of the reserve cash (Pareto's Law, as usual is normally right), they will be fine. A 25% correction in house prices will see them clean up. Again. Remember 34% of the working population hold savings of less than £250.

I work in supply chain and the shipping and airline companies are still holding the industry to 10 year old rates.
We've seen the problems Tesco have had, there are a few more big names out there struggling like fuck, M&S are working on a shoestring, it's a big world of cunt out there.......

I would worry working for a rapidly expanding company. My company expanded much, much faster than anticipated and I needed an extra 100 grand just for working capital. The banks all told me to fuck off. If it weren't for friends an family a perfectly good, expanding business would have gone to the wall because of cashflow. The banks have NOT changed their tune even now (this was 4 years ago).
As for a possible housing crash, I can see that happening. I wouldn't be going anywhere near residential property right now. The average house in the south east costs TWELVE times the average wage now and with banks tightening lending to a max of 4 times wages the average buyer will need a deposit equivalent of 8 times their annual salary, or £200,000 for the average person. Once interest rates start to go up in the next 18 months they will be a LOT of people who can't afford it anymore who are just scraping by now (a 2% rise on a £200k mortgage sticks about £350 a month on, just in extra interest) and there will be a massive fire sale of these properties, mainly to cash, BTL investors who will wait for it all to bottom out. I reckon they could drop 25% quite easily, probably more in London.
In this country home ownership has gone from a sensible aspiration to a dangerous obsession.

My industry I'm more in demand than ever BUT in the past I would get offered permanent contracts, now companies are all 'flexible employers' meaning I get maximum 12 month contract and often people offering me shitloads for very short term contracts. As someone with a mortgage to pay I'd prefer longer term contracts on a bit less money.

Never been better I just to a job with a 25% pay rise plus a bonus that I've never had before
The missus has two job offers on the table that she has to decide on Monday
financially we are better than ever before and long may it continue

Company I work for is expanding massively - much quicker than expected. As such earning is going up.
The expansion is symptomatic of the economy doing well as a whole. We do well out of a recession too, but the growth we are seeing is unprecedented

I'm a self employed contractor and from 2010 until end of 2013 I dropped back to rates I hadn't been on since 2004. It got better in 2014 but I count myself lucky with a 10 week gap between contracts being my biggest hit. My nephews and nieces have been hit hard and really live from hand to mouth to keep their families going, with brother helping out to keep their heads above water. I don't feel like things have got better and most people I know are still watching the pennies.
I think another 5 years of this would be hard but on the bright side at least I'm not Greek.

Bit shit personally.... think last 5 years had a grand total of a 2% wage rise in all... and my pension contributions have gone up from about £50 a month to £250 a month.... deffo less money than 5 or 6 years ago

Paul Hodges of International echem predicted that the oil price would hit $50 two years ago is now predicting a 50% drop in house prices also due to deflation.

The only people who are involved in a 'Cost of Living' crisis are those people who will always be struggling, it's a shame but there are people who only earn just enough to get by.
The personal allowance going up pretty dramatically must make a difference. If a party made a pledge to get Amazon, Starbucks, vodaphone etc to pay more tax they'd walk the election.

My wife and I had our first last year and we are a two wage family. I have no idea how worse-off people have a child because we had to dip into savings, and we had a natural birth, no drugs, and zero complications (about 2k quid out of pocket). she had six (6) weeks maternity leave, and we're lucky to have parents nearby to help, so we can work. we're also on a shoe-string budget. We don't go out. we don't travel. We basically just save what little we can to fix the house or cars when they break.
I started a new job at the beginning of the year that will more than double my wages IF the work keeps coming in, but that's a big if. I am hopeful for the first time in a while though that it will continue.
